After Care / Maintenance
While Hydroseeding makes establishing your lawn easier and more reliable than conventional methods, there is ongoing care that is needed to ensure the seed germinates and continues to grow
Watering It is important that you keep your lawn moist at all times using frequent sprinkling, preferably morning and evening. It is easy to see where watering is needed as the mulch will appear drier and lighter in colour when watering is necessary. Water your lawn early morning / late evening when sunlight cannot cause excessive evaporation. The water should soak into the soil abround 150mm to ensure good root growth. Do not all the water to “pool” in any areas. Watering by hand works the best until the lawn is estabilished. If using a sprinkle set for only a few minutes a day and check that “pooling” doesn’t occur
Fertilising Although you hydroseeded lawn has a slow released fertilizer applied like everything your new lawn is extremely hungry for the nutrients needed to establish and grow. After 6-8 weeks an application of fertilizer is needed. This should be continued monthly until your lawn is fully established using a slow release fertilizer. Once established you should apply fertilizer around 4 times per year
Mowing / Cutting Let the grass grow to around 100mm or just before it start to fall over before you mow / cut you lawn. On the first cut only take 25mm off. Mowing helps stimulate growth of your new lawn. Never remove more than the top 1/3 of the grass blade. Do not use a mulching mower until the lawn has been mowed at least 5 to 6 times with a conventional mower
Weeds Weeds will appear in your new lawn. The come from seeds distributed by birds and the wind These can be treated with a herbicide, fungicide or pesticide as recommended by your lawn care professional or garden centre once the lawn is established and the first mowing has taken place |
